Refunds and cancellations

When you can cancel, when you can return a book, and how a refund is paid back to you.

Last updated 15 August 2026

Draft — not yet reviewed

This is a starting draft prepared against South African consumer and data-protection law. It has not been reviewed by an attorney and it is not legal advice. It must be read and approved by the client’s own legal advisor, and every highlighted gap filled, before this site takes a real payment.

Your seven-day right to cancel

Section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act gives you the right to cancel an online purchase within seven days, without giving a reason and without penalty. For goods, the seven days run from the day you receive them.

You pay only the direct cost of returning the book. We refund everything else.

The exception: downloaded files

The seven-day right does not apply to a digital edition once you have downloaded it. That exception is in the Act itself, and the reason is straightforward: a file cannot be handed back.

So, plainly: if you have not downloaded it yet, ask us and we will cancel and refund. If you have downloaded it, we cannot refund it simply because you changed your mind.

That is not the same as leaving you stuck with a broken file. If a download is corrupt, incomplete, in the wrong format or not what the page described, tell us and we will replace it or refund you. An expired or exhausted link is never a reason to buy again — ask, or re-issue it yourself from your account, and it costs nothing.

Returning a print book

Within seven days of delivery you may return a print book for any reason, provided it is in the condition you received it — unmarked, unwritten in, and with any shrink wrap intact if it was sealed.

To return one:

  • Email hello@dr-davidmolapo.com with your order number and tell us you are returning it.
  • Post or courier it to [[CLIENT: returns address needed]], at your cost.
  • We refund within [[CLIENT: refund turnaround in working days needed]] of the book reaching us.

Please get proof of posting. Until the book reaches us it is still your risk, and a parcel that never arrives is one we cannot refund.

If a book is faulty, damaged or wrong

This is different, and your rights are much stronger. Section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act gives you six months from delivery to return goods that are defective, unsafe or not fit for their ordinary purpose. You choose whether you want a repair, a replacement or a refund — not us.

If a book arrives damaged, misprinted, missing pages or simply is not the title you ordered, we pay the return cost as well. Send us a photograph and we will usually resolve it without needing the book back at all.

How a refund reaches you

A refund goes back to the card or account you paid from, through PayFast. We cannot send it anywhere else — that restriction is a fraud control, and it protects you more than it protects us.

How quickly it appears is up to your bank, and is usually a few working days after we process it. We will tell you the day we release it.

When we refund a digital item, any live download links for it stop working.

Payments that failed or were cancelled

If you abandoned the payment page, or the payment was declined, nothing was charged and there is nothing to refund. Your basket is untouched and you can try again.

If you see a charge for an order you never received a confirmation email for, contact us with the date and amount and we will trace it. Do not place the order again on the assumption that the first one failed.

Orders we cancel

Occasionally we may have to cancel an order — a print title sells out between your order and our despatch, for instance. If that happens we refund you in full, immediately, and tell you why.

We use only the cookies this site needs to work — your basket, your sign-in, and remembering this answer. We do not track you. Read the privacy policy.
